WINNIPEG – More than a thousand pigs perished in a barn fire in southern Manitoba, RCMP say.
The barn in the RM of Hanover went up in flames at about 6 p.m. Thursday. The farm is about 10 km southwest of La Broquerie.

It took three local fire departments until 11 p.m.to douse the blaze, but the barn was completely destroyed and 1100 pigs perished, police say.
No people were hurt. The cause of the fire isn’t known yet.
