TORONTO – A video posted to YouTube showing a grandfather in Belgium bursting into tears after his family give him a new puppy has gone viral.
The tearjerker, posted by grandson Davy Vanhaesendonck, was recorded a week after his grandmother died. Her and Vanhaesendonck’s grandfather were married for 63 years.
According to Vanhaesendonck’s description on the video page, his grandfather’s dog also died a few months before and the family thought the new puppy would “give him energy and the courage to continue his life.”
Vanhaesendonck’s grandpa starts crying when his family walks into his apartment with the little dog.
“I can’t believe it,” he says. “Is it for me,” he asks.
The dog, which the family named Snoopy, is immediately embraced by Vanhaesendonck’s grandpa as he holds it in his arms crying.
“You’re not alone anymore grandpa,” Vanhaesendonck tells him.
The video has been viewed nearly two million times since it was uploaded to YouTube on Aug. 5.
