MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens have signed 2014 first round pick Nikita Scherbak to a three-year entry-level contract.
The six-foot-two, 189-pound forward had 78 points (28 goals, 50 assists) in 65 regular-season games with the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades last season.
He also led all WHL rookies in scoring and was the WHL Eastern Conference finalist for the Rookie of the Year award.
Scherbak led the Blades in goals, assists, points and power-play goals (eight).
The 18-year-old Moscow native was selected 26th overall by Montreal in the 2014 draft.
