Drugs, weapons seized following investigation in northern Alberta

EDMONTON – A man and a woman are facing several drug and weapons-related charges following a drug trafficking investigation in northern Alberta.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams, along with RCMP, executed two search warrants in Wembley, AB on Wednesday, June 4.

Approximately $50,000 worth of drugs – including powder cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone pills, psilocybin, marijuana, and fentanyl pills – were seized from the property.

RCMP say a number of other items were seized, including:

  • Two .22 calibre Mossberg Tactical rifles;
  • Two handguns that were previously reported stolen;
  • A loaded .45 calibre handgun;
  • Two long guns;
  • Four replica handguns;
  • Two Tasers;
  • A flat deck trailer that was previously reported stolen;
  • $5,685 in cash.

Jerrid Rychard, 35, and Shylo Sowan, 33, are now facing multiple drug and weapons charges.

ALERT says it launched the investigation in November 2013 after receiving tips from the public about suspected drug activity.

Wembley is located about 23 kilometres west of Grande Prairie.
