Stonewall, scheduled to shoot in Montreal until the end of August, tells the story of the infamous 1969 riots in New York City that were sparked by a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay gathering spot.

The movie is being directed by openly-gay filmmaker Roland Emmerich, who made last year’s White House Down and 2004’s Day After Tomorrow in Montreal.

It stars Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as Danny, who arrives in New York and befriends a group of street kids who introduce him to the Stonewall Inn.

Meyers plays Trevor, who becomes involved with Danny. Perlman is set to portray the bar’s oleaginous owner.

The Stonewall cast also includes Joey King (TV’s Fargo) and Caleb Landry Jones (Friday Night Lights).
