PORT HARDY, B.C. – A municipality on northern Vancouver Island has announced the death of its mayor.

The District of Port Hardy states on its website that 62-year-old Mayor Bev Parnham passed away Wednesday but has not yet released a cause of death.

The website says Parnham was born in Vancouver on May 2, 1952, and raised in the city before moving to Port Hardy in 1978.

It says Parnham was first elected to municipal council in 1989, and was finishing her second term as mayor when she died

The website says she represented her community at the Regional District of Mount Waddington, as well as on local, regional and provincial committees.

The district has not yet announced any details on Parnham’s funeral.

“Mayor Parnham will be missed by her many close friends, her large extended family, constituents, council and staff,” states the website.

“She will be remembered as an ambitious and strong leader with the betterment of Port Hardy being the key driving force of her aspirations for serving in the mayoral office.”
