Friday May 16th on The Morning News

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! As we get set to enjoy the first long weekend of the summer season, the Morning News team has everything you need to plan your weekend – details about the Royal Visit, a visit from celebrity tattoo artist Megan Massacre with highlights from the upcoming Tattoo Festival and we’ll also hear a tune from Head of the Herd! All that plus your news and weather!!

Lots of work happening to get the public gardens ready for the Royal Visit. Prince Charles apparently is a keen gardener and has written many books on the subject. A tree will be dedicated in honour of the royal family in the gardens this weekend.  At 6:45 Brett Ruskin will talk with Halifax’s Chief Horticulturalist Bev McPhail who is busy preparing the City for the big day.

Megan Massacre drops by the Morning News at 7:15 to share tattoo horror stories. The star of TLC’s America’s Worst Tattoos is in town for this weekend’s Maritime Tattoo Festival.

Get into a good groove ahead of the Long Weekend, with a performance by Head of the Herd at 7:45. The Vancouver band gives us a preview of their upcoming show at Michael’s Bar and Grill.

Casino Nova Scotia is thrilled to announce the jury for its new Artist in Residence program. At 8:15 we’ll hear more about the auditioning process and talk with Judge and local music promoter Sheri Jones.

May 2-4 weekend is the unofficial kick off of summer travel season, so Gillian Wesley of The Local Traveler NS will be in AT 8:45 to talk about a helpful resource this season:  The Local Traveler Guide to Halifax.  It’s an interactive e-book that has been featured on iTunes on the New and Notable page.
