MONCTON – A Moncton children’s charity is at risk of shutting down unless it finds storage space soon.

Last year, Amanda Pooley set out to collect toys for children in need. Her charity has grown to include clothing and books.

“In our first year of operation we helped over 500 children,” she said.

Her charity, now called “What Kids Need Moncton,” helps struggling families that can’t afford to provide toys and clothing for their kids.

Families like Vanessa and Aaron King. The couple are expecting their first child in September, but struggle to make ends meet.

“My husband was laid off and I am getting minimum hours,” King said. “Being directed here to this charity was nothing short of a blessing.”

And Pooley is happy to help, but she’s facing some challenges.

“We have lots of families that need the items but we need the space to store them and sort them and find the right family to match them up with,” she said.

She’s about to lose two of her four storage spaces and doesn’t know what to do with the hundreds boxes of items up for donation.

“We are kind of hoping that maybe a local business that has a corner of a warehouse empty will step up and allow us to use that space,” she said.

Pooley has launched a fundraising campaign to raise enough money to buy permanent storage for “What Kids Need Moncton” but it’s taking some time.

She’s not sure what she’s going to do for the short term. She says if she doesn’t find permanent space in a month, her charity might have to shut down.

The Kings say that would be a shame for the entire community.

“It’s good to see such good in the world and you’d like to see it keep going,” King said.
