TORONTO — Pop star Pharrell Williams broke down during an interview with Oprah Winfrey after watching a compilation of videos from around the world for his hit song “Happy.”

The 41-year-old singer needed a moment to compose himself after the montage.

“Why am I crying on Oprah?,” joked Williams.

He wiped tears from his face and explained why he was so emotional.

“It’s overwhelming because I love what I do and I just appreciate the fact that people have believed in me for so long that I can make it to this point, to feel that,” said Williams.

“Happy” was released last November and appears both on Williams’ album G I R L and on the soundtrack of Despicable Me 2. It has sold more than 1.2 million copies, topped the charts around the world and earned an Oscar nomination.
