CN Tower lit up in green as tribute to Jim Flaherty

TORONTO – A pair of Toronto landmarks went green Friday night in a colourful tribute to Canada’s former finance minister.

The CN Tower and Toronto city hall were bathed in green light in honour of Jim Flaherty, who died suddenly on Thursday at his home in Ottawa.

The CN Tower is frequently lit in different colours to commemorate special events and people.

A spokeswoman says the CN Tower will also be coloured green next Wednesday, the day of Flaherty’s state funeral in Toronto.

Toronto deputy mayor Norm Kelly announced the plan to light city hall in honour of Flaherty on Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Flaherty was known for wearing green ties, especially on special occasions, as a nod to his Irish heritage.
