ABOVE: Find out how when the heaviest rainfall is expected to arrive in Southern Ontario
TORONTO – The snow is over, but the rain is back.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday afternoon calling for significant rain, including some freezing rain for some regions.
A low pressure system — that is bringing snow and mixed precipitation to northern Ontario — is making its way toward Ontario.
Rain has already begun in southwestern Ontario and will spread northeastward tonight, reaching the Golden Horseshoe by Friday evening. North of Highway 401, the precipitation is expected to be freezing rain as the precipitation starts.
Rainfall amounts of up 15 to 25 mm are expected, as are isolated thunderstorms which may produce the higher amount in local areas.
The morning commute could be a challenge from southern Lake Huron to northern Toronto, so motorists are urged to use caution on the roads.
Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation and issue warnings if needed.
