BLOG: Morning News Rewind – April 3

Jonathan Li performs his song “One Life” on the Morning News. File / Global News

What do golf, a puppy, hosted tours, mortgages and Jonathan Li have in common? All were featured on Thursday’s Morning News.

Jessica caught up with Jonathan Li before he performed his song “One Life”

The inspiration for Jonathan Li’s album is very unique; he writes his songs based on the lives of his friends. His new album is called Our Stories Matter, which is clearly a fitting title.

Jonathan is an artist based out of Calgary doing a press tour right now… next stop: Edmonton.

Be sure to check him out and support a thriving Canadian artist! Jonathan wants to hear about your stories for more inspiration for new songs.

Without sounding too much like a salesperson, I can totally see the merit and value in having someone with you who has been there, and done that.

Questions about culture? Where are the good restaurants around the hotel? Having your own personal concierge has its advantages!

How will lower mortgage rates affect homeowners? Kevin gets the answers from Scott Trainor

Are you buying a new car? Pick two: cheap, reliable, fast. That’s just the way the world works.

BMO’s new mortgage is the same thing — 2.99 per cent certainly covers the ‘cheap’ end, but what about reliability? And, for the sake of this hyperbole, what about flexibility?

When you’re in on this five-year plan, you’re in. That can bode ill for some. Do your research. Speak to a broker. Find out what’s best for you, because when you get a cheap mortgage rate, you’re getting what you pay for a lot of the time.

Melissa gets into the swing of things at GolfTEC

The hype around the Masters is continuing to build and that was evident this morning talking to the members of Golf Saskatchewan.

With Graham DeLaet’s success, there is a lot of pride here in Saskatchewan centred on him. His friend Jeff made “Graham Gangsters” t-shirts to show supposed for his friend, but that had quickly spread with more people across the province wanting to sport the shirt to show their pride.

If you would like a taste of Augusta, there will be a Masters event hosted by Golf Saskatchewan at Hudson on April 13 and supported by Global Saskatoon.

Who knows, maybe we’ll be able to cheer on our homegrown athlete as well.

Jessica and Kevin meet Indiana, a puppy at New Hope Dog Rescue looking for a new home

May 4 is the New Hope Dog Rescue walkathon. It’s a really fun event (I went last year!) that I encourage dog lovers with amiable pooches to attend.

Firstly, you can walk for free! It’s an amazing social event! There are also tons of opportunities to give back to New Hope.

If you’re like me and don’t own a pet, that option can also be made available for the low, low price of volunteerism. Take a strange pup for a spin! You might just be surprised with who you end up with.

Also, spay. And neuter. Something something control the pet population.

Spring love is in the air!
