WATCH: Golden dreams at Apex

Some of the top freestyle skiers in the country, including a handful of Olympians from Sochi, were at Penticton’s Apex Mountain last weekend, vying for a spot on Canada’s national team.

Brenden Kelly is one of those who dreams of gold.

“I hope to one day become an Olympian. I’ve been training super hard with my team. Hopefully make the national team within the next couple of years and take it from there. Hopefully, trying to go to 2018.”

He hopes to become an Olympian like Bilodeau — a gold medalist back from Sochi. Bilodea can remember when he was Kelly’s age.

“I remember younger, on the Quebec team, I was looking up to the guys that work up to the Olympics, just to gauge themselves to where they need to go. It’s fun to share a run with them.”

One would assume that Bilodeau would be bombarded with questions. The perfect time to ask an Olympian for pointers, but Bilodeau some obviously find it too intimidating.

“I think they’re too shy. They should actually. It’s always good to try help them as much as possible.”

While others are launching their career in professional sports, Bilodeau is wrapping his up.

“I’m retiring, so it’s my last competition and hopefully I’ll be spending time with the kids and inspiring them more to do freestyle skiing.”
