REGINA – The Saskatchewan Roughriders may have to pay their taxes after all.

The football club had been on a list of 36 property tax exemptions before Regina city council on Monday night.

But the plan hit a snag due to public backlash in recent weeks over the team’s profits of nearly $6-million over the past two years.

Council could decide next month on a bylaw amendment that would ask the Roughriders to pay more than $55,000 in taxes on properties around the city.

The community-owned CFL team has been receiving a tax break from the city since 1989.

The largest exemptions on the 2014 list are for the Regina Airport Authority and the RCMP Heritage Centre, which are seeking to have more than $551,000 in property taxes forgiven.
