BLOG: Morning News Rewind – March 19

New mother and pharmacist Kelly Kizlyk looks at some medication essentials that should be in every new parent’s medicine cabinet. File / Global News

Swing dancing, the University Cup, baby medication, the Canadian Light Source and a budget preview were featured on the Morning News for Wednesday, March 19.

Kevin learns more about the Canadian Light Source

Thursdays at 1:30 in the afternoon, you could, if you so desired, meander your way over to the University to bear witness to one of the province’s greatest achievements.

You can observe, albeit briefly, some of the greatest minds in the province (and by that extension, the country) as they work with beams and rays of light and beyond our spectrum to continue unraveling the mysteries of the universe.

Kind of makes one feel a touch insignificant, eh? If anyone needs me, I’ll be off tweeting or jumping on a pogo stick.

What medications should new parents have at home? Jessica gets the answers from Kelly Kizlyk

It was so great to welcome Kelly back for Ask a Health Pro after she’s been away on maternity leave. Being that she has a new born; it was fitting to hear about what kinds of medications you should have in your cabinet for babies.

I am not a mother, but I can imagine it’s a nerve wracking thing giving your baby medicine for the first time, not knowing if it’s too much or how they’ll react to it.

Kelly noted babies generally shouldn’t have to take a whole lot of medication, but she outlines if they need it how to give it to them. Have a watch!

Kevin is cheering on the Huskies as the puck is set to drop on the University Cup

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It’s always great getting to sit in with a couple of our local athletes. As the University of Saskatchewan Huskies hit the ice Friday night, I hope you’ll find it in you to slide back to the CUC to witness the University Cup and cheer on the local boys.

I’ve seen them play this season. I went on a date as part of the Bachelor with C95 to the CUC to watch. It’s really good hockey, and worth the meager investment of your dollars and time.

Joe Garcea tells Jessica what to expect in the provincial budget

To sum things up, the budget will be similar to last year’s. That’s according to political professor Joe Garcea from the University of Saskatchewan.

It’s nice talking to someone who can break things as complicated as the provincial budget down into layman’s terms so the general public can understand and get interested! He noted that the government tends to over promise, so that is something to keep in mind when the budget is released this afternoon at 2:15.

Stay connected with Global Saskatoon for up-to-date details when the budget is tabled and tune in tonight at 6 for all your provincial budget coverage!

Melissa gets into the swing of things with the Prairie Lindy Exchange

While I forgot to bring my dancing shoes this morning, learning to swing was all kinds of fun! The best part about it (other than the music of course) was that it truly is all about having a great time. The dance is meant to be looser and less rigid than ballroom from the basic stance to the movements.

The Prairie Lindy Exchange or PLEXpocalspe is one of the largest swing dancing events in western Canada andwill be the largest swing event Saskatoon will see to date! It will feature over 100 dancers touching down on our city for dance competitions, lessons in swing, and live music.

This year Dave mentioned the theme is Apocalypse allowing for freedom in customs, decorations etc. Although I really enjoyed the couple’s work I learned today, I got to say the shim sham was probably my favourite part of the morning.
