Moose Jaw mural just one piece of heritage gone

Moose Jaw's river street red mural burned to the ground Thursday in a massive fire. Residents say it's just one more piece of heritage gone. Global News

Yesterday’s fire in Moose Jaw wasn’t just a loss to residents and businesses, it’s a huge blow to the city’s arts and culture scene.

The river street red mural was just one iconic piece destroyed in the fire.

It was created in 1991 by Brian Romagnoli.

He says it took him two weeks to design, and three weeks of 10 hour days to paint.

Despite the loss, he says he’s more concerned with how the fire has affected the community.

“Moose Jaw was quite the eye-opener for me because that’s the city that adopted me, and I adopted it,” he told Global News from Lincoln, Ontario. “Some things can be replaced and some things can’t. People’s lives have been affected here. It’s kind of gut-wrenching actually.”
