Marois outlines details for independent Quebec

QUEBEC – Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois said a separate Quebec wants to keep using the Canadian dollar.

Marois also said Quebec would hope to have a seat at the Bank of Canada even if it means the bank’s monetary policy would apply in any new independent state.

The comments fall in line with the PQ’s position under leader Jacques Parizeau in the 1990s.

Marois said in Quebec City on Wednesday that the province’s economy is in good shape and that it would be beneficial to Canada for Quebec to be involved with the dollar and the central bank.

She is also pointing out that European countries are independent but share a common currency.
