Despite numerous warnings not to go in the backcountry, a 40-year-old man is safe and sound this morning after getting lost out-of-bounds on Cypress Mountain.
North Shore Rescue went into heavy snow last night to locate the man.
Crews managed to locate him using coordinates from his phone, but his battery was very low and close to dying.
He was eventually found near a steep gully and he was able to hike up to team members.
Search crews say the man is lucky to be alive.
“Very fortunate that some things came together for him. One was that his cell phone was just dying. We were able to get the coordinates out of his phone before it died. And we were able to talk to him but if that didn’t happen we’d be still looking for him right now. So he was very fortunate for us that we were able to get him out quickly” says Douglas Pope of North Shore Rescue.
