Swirling in the news this week, aside from Kate Middleton pregnancy reports (which I’ll only believe if and when it’s confirmed), are reports that Camilla wants Kate to cut her hair. Not only that, hairstylist Denise McAdam, who formerly served different members of the royal family over a time period that spanned approximately 35 years, is now speaking out. Shedding light on life inside the palace, McAdam told Radio Times magazine, Us Weekly reports, that she thinks the Duchess of Cambridge’s hair is “wonderful, maybe a little overdone at times.”
McAdam also refers to Kate as her “good friend,” but I’m guessing they’re not good friends now. The minute an insider speaks out about the royals, they are insiders no more. Just look at Kate’s former hairstylist James Pryce – it’s reported that he set up a Facebook page and used photos of Kate to promote his work. He is reportedly Kate’s stylist no longer.
McAdam candidly said that she was awarded the Royal Victorian Medal from The Queen, for “35 years of keeping my mouth shut.” Modesty and loyalty is the key to inside the royal household. So what changed for McAdam? I can only wonder. But maybe years of doing Princess Anne’s hair, who she named “the scary one,” drove McAdam to break from her loyalty.
Bedraggled? Really?! Kate’s hair is famous for a reason, 90 per cent of the time it looks perfect. That said, yes, we did see grey roots this year, and her hair is looking a fraction less than perfect these days. But, remember, she’s a new mom. Maybe her less-perfectly coiffed ‘do is all a cleverly calculated PR move to have Kate remain appealing to mothers everywhere, reminding them that she too is trying to juggle it all. Or, maybe now that Pryce is gone, Kate’s hair style is in an awkward transition phase of finding itself again.
In any case, I hardly believe this rumour. Camilla and Kate are both outsiders who married into the royal family. Given the scrutiny Camilla faced in the past, being blamed for the ruin of Charles and Diana’s marriage, I hardly can envision her criticizing Kate. From what we’ve learned over time from “insider” knowledge, is it would appear such personal requests or criticisms would only ever come from Liz, The Queen.
