Allan Schoenborn’s request for day passes denied by BC Review Board

Video: A review panel has refused to grant convicted child killer Allan Schoenborn more freedom from the psychiatric hospital he now calls home.  Tanya Beja reports.

UPDATE 4:23 p.m.: The BC Review Board has denied Allan Schoenborn’s request for day passes. His doctors said that granting him passes poses a danger to the public due to his unresolved anger control issues.

Previous story:

A man found not criminally responsible for the deaths of his three children is looking for more freedom and is appearing before the B.C. Review Board.

Allan Schoenborn is applying for escorted day passes from the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Port Coquitlam.

Schoenborn admitted to killing his three children in April 2008, 10-year-old Kaitlynne, eight-year-old Max, and five-year-old Cordon. However, he was found not criminally responsible because of a mental disorder.

According to his psychiatrist, Dr. Marcel Hediger, Schoenborn has been involved in verbal altercations and been a victim of violence during his time in the hospital. Although Schoenborn has not had any delusional symptoms for three years, he still needs treatment surrounding his anger management issues. Overall, Heidger says Schoenborn poses too great of a risk to be allowed into the community.

He was granted supervised day trips previously in 2011, but rescinded the request after a public outcry.
