Why is Canada’s two-man bobsleigh called “The Deuce”?

Canadian bobsledder Lyndon Rush let slip a nugget of information at a press conference in Sochi Wednesday when asked why his bobsled is called “The Deuce.”

The Saskatoon-born Rush told an amusing, if rambling, story about the origin of the 2-man sled’s name.

It seems Rush’s wife and kids call bobsled “poop sled.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“They kind of tease me,” Rush said. “And going poop is the number 2.”

“I think one of my kids came up with that,” he said. “I think Olivia thought we should name it ‘Deuce’ because it’s poop. Something they tease me about.”

Rush didn’t explain why his family equated bobsleigh to poop, leaving that up to reporters’ imaginations.

Rush’s four-man sled, which he also pilots, is called, “The Moose,” mostly because of its size and because it rhymes with “deuce,” he said.

Canadians can watch The Deuce drop at the Sanki Sliding Centre beginning Feb. 16, along with Canada’s two other 2-man sleds.
