Video: Vernon man helped subdue violent plane passenger on flight to YVR

An Australian man has plead guilty to one charge of causing a disturbance on a flight after he became violent on an international flight on February 2.

25-year-old Abdul Zain Ali received a sentence of time served, which was three days in custody, and a two-year probation.

The Criminal Justice Branch says the CBSA will make the decision on whether or not the man will be deported.

Richmond RCMP say a man is in custody after he became violent on an international flight.

RCMP say they were called to Vancouver International Airport at 6:30 a.m. Sunday after the pilot of an international flight arriving at YVR said a passenger was “acting violently.”

The man had to be restrained on the flight and it landed just after 9:30 a.m. The man was taken into custody.

He is in custody pending assault charges.

Police have not yet said where the man is from or why he was coming to Canada.

Several flights were arriving at YVR Sunday morning, including an international flight from Guangzhou on China Southern Airlines at 9:40 a.m. It’s not yet known if the man was on the flight.
