TORONTO – Sony is investigating an issue with some of its PlayStation 4 consoles that has left some users complaining of corrupt files and hours of lost game play.

The error is identified as error code CE-34878-0 and tells users that the application has crashed. Many users on Sony’s support forum have reported losing saved game data after receiving the error message – causing hours of game play to disappear.

“I’ve had this same error with Killzone Shadowfall. Unfortunately it corrupted my game save file. I have now lost all progress in the campaign,” said one user. “This is ridiculously frustrating.”

“I lost 40+ hours of AC4 Gameplay,” another wrote.

“We are aware of the cases, and we appreciate your patience while we investigate,” read a statement from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

According to PlayStation’s support website, upon seeing that error code users should close the application, install the latest system software or game update, and restart the game. However, some users on the support forum claim this doesn’t work every time.

Sony has sold over four million PlayStation 4 consoles since its release in November.
