WINNIPEG – Police were called after residents on a water main break-plagued Winnipeg street became unruly on Sunday morning.
City crews repairing a water main break on Laxdal Road were accosted by residents unhappy about repeated water stoppages, police and residents said.
Later Sunday, Mildred Gogush said the water to her home was shut off for about the 12th time.
“I wish they’d get it done once and for all,” she said.
Tom Smith found water pooling in his front ditch when he woke up Sunday.
“If I didn’t get up early this morning at 5 a.m., and my wife didn’t get up at 6 because the water was off, we would have been flooded again,” Smith said.
Water to the homes is being supplied from portable stations.
The city planned to fix the water mains along Laxdal in 2015, but that will now be moved up, a city spokesperson said.
