Vancouver Public Library declared one of the top libraries in the world

Researchers at a German university have named the Vancouver Public Library one of the top libraries in the world.

They analyzed the services and spaces of public libraries in 31 major cities around the world, including how libraries “support the digital, learning and creative fabric of their cities.”

Vancouver tied with Montreal for the honour of top spot. Libraries in Chicago, San Francisco, Shanghai and Toronto rounded out the top five.

“Vancouver is a world-class city and we’re extremely pleased and humbled to be recognized as a top world-class library,” says VPL chief librarian Sandra Singh.

“It’s gratifying to be in such esteemed library company, and we’re excited to be playing a part in highlighting Vancouver on the world map through our work supporting an informed, engaged and connected city.”
