Massive drifts in Calgary’s far northeast strand residents

Residents of the northeast communities of Redstone and Skyview Ranch had a tougher go of it than many Calgarians Tuesday because of huge snow drifts in their neighbourhoods.

Sohail Yaser, who just moved into his home in Redstone a week ago, was among the residents forced to stay home because their vehicles were stuck.

“I called AMA but the waiting time is 17 hours”, said Yaser. “I had to call off work, couldn’t get to work.”

Other residents expressed frustration at what they say was a lack of help from the city.

“This (grader/plow) is the only one to come help us,” said Sunipal Sing. “He was here but then he had to move out.  Otherwise, no one has been, no one will come.”

The communities are surrounded by open expanses of prairie and residents say big drifts are not uncommon in windy and snowy weather.

Snow drifts were also a big problem in the northeast neighbourhood of Saddle Ridge, where at least one road was virtually impassable, forcing some residents to drive out on a bike path.
