Crystal Goomansingh

Global News’ Europe Bureau Chief, Crystal Goomansingh is an award- winning journalist with over two decades of experience, beginning her reporting career full-time in 1999 

She has worked throughout Canada for various television networks and radio stations, during which time she has covered stories across North America and beyond.  

Crystal is part of a select group of Canadian journalists who have traveled to Gaza to report on the current conflict. She’s also traveled to Kandahar to cover the Afghan War for Global National, Global’s flagship newscast. She’s also been at the forefront of Global’s coverage of Russia’s war in Ukraine, the largest land war in Europe since the Second World War, being deployed multiple times and providing Canadians with insight into the war, as well as the deadly consequences for Ukrainians – often with exclusive stories and unprecedented access. Her work also centered around the sharing of the historic apology of Pope Francis to Indigenous residential school survivors as a result of Canada’s Catholic-run residential schools. Finally, Goomansingh worked extensively on Pandemic coverage across Europe and the United Kingdom, spending over a year covering news surrounding COVID-19. 

With experience as a reporter, video journalist, national correspondent and anchor, Crystal has a unique understanding of the industry with exceptional editorial judgment.  

Crystal has been honoured by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario with an award for Best Television News Story for an investigation with Global’s 16X9 entitled “Profitable Patients”. As Health Reporter for Global Toronto, Goomansingh was recognized twice bythe Canadian Medical Association for her stories on the relationship between alcohol and cancer, as well as a report on sugar limits. Crystal was also a part of the team that won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for News Innovation in 2017 

Goomansingh grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she began her broadcasting career.  When she’s not working, she loves to travel, spend time in nature, and read.
