Addressing the media in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy insisted that negotiating the U.S. debt ceiling up until the final week before its deadline was “the last thing” he wanted. “Our debt is larger than our economy by more than 20 per cent,” McCarthy said.
