More than 55 million people worldwide are living with dementia and that’s expected to double every 20 years. On this week’s episode of The New Reality, Farah Nasser looks at how we care for our loved ones with cognitive decline. First, we take you inside Canada’s first dementia village in Langley, British Columbia and speak with the founder of the world’s first dementia village in The Netherlands. This type of person-centered care allows people with dementia to live their lives as they deserve to – with freedom and dignity. Plus, the majority of Canadians living with dementia will age at home, and although there isn’t a cure, but there is hope found in the intersection of technology and research. We introduce you to a network of hospitals, universities, researchers, and caregivers that are finding innovative ways for Canadians with cognitive decline to remain at home safely and independently.
