Along with the 2022 visit of Pope Francis, Catholic leaders from Alberta made a trip to the Vatican with a delegation of residential school survivors to meet with the pope. Edmonton Archbishop Richard Smith played a prominent role in both the trip to Rome and Pope Francis’ visit to Canada. Erin Chalmers sat down with Smith to discuss next steps from the Catholic Church’s perspective, and the help he needs from Indigenous communities to make change a reality.
