Regina, Co-op Refinery reach $4.65 million settlement over water contamination

The City of Regina has reached a $4.65 million settlement with Consumers' Co-operative Refinery Limited, ending a lawsuit between the two parties. The lawsuit stemmed from an incident in May 2020 when a thick, tar-like substance contaminated 60,000 litres of water released from the plant. Regina said the settlement will be invested into repairing a damaged lagoon, infrastructure and testing improvements.
