Defence Minister Anita Anand said Wednesday that the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks was “top of mind” as she and other defence officials are set to meet in Germany. The group would need to approve the transfer of the tanks to Ukraine. Asked if there were concerns such a transfer could escalate the war between Ukraine and Russia, Anand said Canada should “continue to do whatever it can” to support Ukraine in the short and long term. She said that was why 200 tanks from Roshel, an armoured vehicle company in Ontario, would be sent to Ukraine, as announced earlier in the day.
