‘Humanity has become a weapon of mass extinction’: UN secretary-general cautions during COP15 opening
Description
December 6, 2022
Speaking during the opening ceremony at the COP15 biodiversity conference in Montreal on Tuesday, UN secretary-general António Guterres cautioned that, "Humanity has become a weapon of mass extinction. We are treating nature like a toilet and ultimately we are committing suicide by proxy because the loss of nature and biodiversity comes with a steep human cost.” Guterres also urged that a “bold” post-2020 global biodiversity framework is needed.
