Emergencies Act inquiry: Federal government says protests represented a ‘threat’ to America-Canada trade

Testifying in front of the Public Order Emergency Commission (POEC) on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Finance Michael Sabia said that the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protest last winter, in Ottawa and at border crossings across Canada, was a “threat” to Canada’s trading relationship with the United States in their opinion, and could have “very severe long-term consequences” if it was allowed to continue for a long period of time.
