Winnipeg police appeal for information on death of woman experiencing homelessness
Description
October 3, 2022
Winnipeg police Const. Jay Murray spoke on Monday about an investigation into the death of a 41-year-old unhoused woman who suffered severe burns. Murray said that the injuries Melissa Cook suffered were likely sustained between late June and early July. He said Cook likely kept quiet about the injuries until she informed staff at a shelter and was transported to hospital. She died due to her injuries in late August. Murray is urging the public for assistance, specifically the city's unhoused population. Investigators will be distributing posters and asking for any information later this week.
