Iran’s Khamenei says death of Mahsa Amini ‘bitter incident’ provoked by Iran’s enemies

Iran's supreme leader said on Monday that the death of Mahsa Amini in custody was a "bitter incident" provoked by Iran's enemies. In his first remarks addressing the 22-year-old woman's death after being arrested for wearing clothes deemed “un-Islamic” by strict Iranian authorities, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave his full backing to security forces confronting protests ignited by Amini's death, and said the fight is about "Iran’s independence and strength."
