During a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in the House of Commons on Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the queen’s death has struck Canadians “palpably,” with so many reflecting on the loss of a monarch during whose reign Canada truly “came of age.” He added that many Canadians feel they’ve lost a family member “who grew up alongside us.”
