On Friday, Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon acknowledged the “solemn” nature of this year’s Decorations for Bravery ceremony to award recipients with medals, following Queen Elizabeth’s death on Thursday. Despite her passing, the ceremony occurred, in which 40 Decorations were given. This is one of Canada’s most‑respected and prestigious civilian honours.
