If you went to elementary school in Alberta, you might remember getting a tree to plant in Grade 1. For more than 60 years, the Alberta government has delivered tree seedlings to Grade 1 students during Alberta forest week. Nearly 70,000 lodgepole pine and white spruce trees have been handed out, but where are they now? Grade 8 student Joshua Kirsch and educator Dustin Bajer are teaming up to map Alberta’s Grade 1 trees.
