World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Tuesday that the COVID-19 pandemic remains a global health emergency, adding that the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants are driving “waves of cases, hospitalizations and deaths around the world.” He said reduced surveillance has made it “increasingly difficult” to assess the impact of variants and the effectiveness of countermeasures.
