WHO confirms 348 probably cases of acute hepatitis in children

Dr. Philippa Easterbrook, a senior scientist at the World Health Organization’s Global HIV, Hepatitis and STI Programmes, confirmed on Tuesday that globally there are now 348 probable cases of acute hepatitis of “unknown origin” reported in children. She said, however, that only five countries are reporting more than five cases. Easterbrook said there is a strong correlation with the adenovirus but that testing is also being done to determine the role of COVID-19 “either as a co-infection or as a past infection.”
