New Zealand Associate Minister of Health Ayesha Verrall announced Thursday that the government was planning to ban young people from ever buying cigarettes in their lifetime in one of the world's toughest crackdowns on the tobacco industry. The legislation will be introduced next year and if passed, those who turn 14 or younger in 2027 would be unable to buy cigarettes for the remainder of their lives.
