Following the disappearance of Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai after she publicly accused former Chinese vice premier Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault, Global News reporter David Akin asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday about funding and sending Canadian athletes to the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Trudeau said over the “past many months,” the government has been engaged in conversations with international partners and allies over its approach to the upcoming Beijing Olympics, stressing that athletes have been training hard for this event while continuing to “demonstrate real concerns” with the Chinese government’s behaviour.
