Italian “super taster” helping COVID-19 survivors regain sense of smell
Description
September 4, 2021
As COVID-19 spread across the world last year, it became clear that this particular type of coronavirus was different from its predecessors - specifically its effects on the sense of smell. Some patients lost the ability to detect fragrances altogether, while for many, the sense became warped - rendering formerly pleasant aromas like vanilla and lemons putrid. Minna Rhee spoke to a former super taster in Italy who is on a mission to help other COVID-19 long-haulers regain this vital function.
