A Mohawk Huronia Regional Centre Survivor says the abuse he’s faced during his childhood impacts all aspects of his life
WATCH: 82-year-old Harold Johnson spent majority of his childhood institutionalized at Huronia Regional Hospital, where he says he faced countless acts of abuse. He was hit in the head with a baseball bat, and got brain damage which impacts his speech. Being Mohawk, Johnson says he wasn’t able to display anything related to his culture, including his language while at the institution. The Huronia Regional Centre faced a class action lawsuit, where former patients grouped together, and won a hefty settlement- but Johnson says he didn’t receive any money, and is still searching for some form of justice.
