No one was injured after fire destroyed a recreational vehicle on Hwy. 401 in Cobourg on Monday morning. Around 11 a.m., emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire in the westbound lanes near Country Road 45. Northumberland OPP say a tow truck was hauling the RV from Prince Edward County to the Stouffville area when the camper's rear axle broke and the tow truck driver stopped. That's when he discovered a fire underneath the rear portion of the camper. OPP said the driver used a fire extinguisher but was unable to extinguish the blaze which quickly spread. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. The westbound lanes of the highway were closed. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
