During the Conservative Party of Canada’s 2020 event to elect a new party leader, outgoing leader Andrew Scheer delivered his final speech in the role. Scheer compared the rhetoric of the left-leaning Liberals to eastern European communist nations of the 1980s, stating that although their policies “were supposed to help the poor and promote equality,” but they instead caused “misery.”
