Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove with the World Health Organization (WHO) responded on Wednesday to a question regarding the inconsistent information sometimes being disseminated by governments and public health officials throughout the pandemic, by saying that scientific research papers usually take time to get reviewed and published which is not the case with the COVID-19 pandemic where information is needed quickly and it comes as “posts on social media platforms” or press releases by different research groups. She went on to explain the procedure WHO usually follows to approve a research.
