George Floyd protests: Trump says U.S. law enforcement has some ‘bad apples’ but ‘not too many’

During a roundtable discussion in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that there are “bad apples” in any profession, including within law enforcement, but added that there are “not too many.” Trump said if police officers are “allowed to do their job, they’ll do a great job.” The president’s remarks come after protesters across the U.S. have demanded the defunding, and in some cases disbanding, of police departments after the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day. Floyd, a Black man, died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn. after a white police officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
