Coronavirus outbreak: WHO official says tracing, investigation needed to avoid widespread lockdowns

Dr. Michael Ryan, the executive director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) emergencies program, said on Monday that extreme public health and social measures, like stay at home orders, can be an effective method in cases of high transmission. However, he said if countries put in place contact tracing, quarantine of contacts, and only isolate a small quantity of the population it can help avoid widespread lockdowns.
